Frequently Asked Questions:

What is an independent stylist?

I am an independent hair stylist. This means that I rent a chair at The Loft Hair Studio but I am not affiliated with the salon. Curls By Joy is an independent business that operates out of the space and provides individual luxury curly services. Any questions you may have must be communicated directly to me.

How far in advance does the schedule book out?

My schedule opens up 8 weeks in advance. I open up my schedule on the 1st of the month, two months in advance. For example, If it is November 1st, I will be opening up the schedule for January. The schedule is 100% accurate, if you don’t see availability online, it’s because it is not available. The schedule updates whenever a client cancels/reschedules their appointment. Don’t give up! Check the link periodically to see if your desired slot is available!

How should I prep my hair for my appointment?

Please arrive to your appointment with a wash & go. Please refrain from using any oils or butters prior to your Appointment ( we will discuss why during your consultation). No pressure! The wash n go does not have to be perfect! In order to give you a precise and detailed cut (even if it’s a trim) I must be able to see your true curl pattern.

Do men book services?

Curls by joy welcomes all gender identities with open arms! Please know that everyone is welcome in my chair!

How long should I anticipate being in the salon?

The booking site books appointments without drying time included. You can expect to be in the salon for about 2 hours

Should I get a curly cut?

You are eligible for a curly cut if you wear your hair in its natural state 90% of the time. If you plan to straighten your hair regularly (weekly or monthly) you may not be ready for a curly cut. Curly cuts are provided to trim our natural curls to our desired shape. Please only book an appointment if you are committed to wearing your hair in it natural state 90% of the time.

How often should I book a curly cut?

For optimal health and growth, I would highly recommend trimming your curls every 3-4 months. This ensures that you are retaining the length on the ends, by eliminating split ends on a quarterly basis.

If i’m at the beginning of my curly hair journey, what do you recommend that I book to achieve optimal hair health?

All New clients must book the “Embrace Your Curls” service. Afterwards, I highly recommend booking a monthly “Smooth And Define” service so that your hair can be properly detoxed, conditioned, and set for a few months. This is a great way to continuously detox your curls and use hydrating products to help your curls retain moisture. This will give your hair a solid routine to follow as you continue your journey to having hydrated and healthy curls.

Can I book if I have severe heat damage?

I would highly recommend booking an appointment if you are ready to cut all ( or most) of your damage off! I can only enhance what you already have. I cannot make damaged hair curly.

What is the cancellation policy and why do you have one?

My cancellation policy is after booking, you must reschedule or cancel your appointment at least 48 hours in advance.

If you cancel your appointment on the same day or no show, you will be charged the full amount. If you cancel within 24 hours of your appointment, you will be charged 50% of the service.

I book 2 months out allowing people to secure their spots in advance. If you cancel last minute, it is more than likely I will be unable to replace your appointment. Therefore forfeiting the opportunity for me to get a different client in. I do not want to charge anyone a fee so please cancel in advance to avoid any fees

What kind of products will be used in my hair?

I use clean, botanical, water soluble products. Every product that will be used in your curls will be communicated to you during you appointment. I will also email you a product list at the end of the appointment so that you can follow a solid routine at home.
